Sarah Waters just called in and signed copies of her brilliant new novel The Paying Guests. If she thought I looked familiar to her it was probably because I once won the best dressed vicar competition at a party we both attended. I was wearing a tonsure and a slanket at the time, complete with a cardboard rosary.
